COMPETITOR PROFILE NO. 6 Miss Billie Beau Miss Billie Beau gave up full time work as a Landscape Architect 3 years ago to pursue a career in dance and fitness. Billie is a Dance Teacher, Dance Fitness Instructor, Sports Coach and Bodybuilder. At a very early age, in a small sugar cane farming town of Home Hill, Queensland, Billie trained in Jazz Ballet. Later in life, after travelling overseas to South America, Paris, London and New York, she branched into exotic styles such as salsa, merengue, hip-hop, brazilian samba and burlesque. Billie is the creator of Sweet DeVille Burlesque and Sweet DeVille Boylesque (first boy group in Townsville). She has performed Burlesque for a couple of years and appears in the local Cultural Festivals, Dance Expos, Latin Vibration dance school Showcases and local Drag Queen show. Beginning her Burlesque experience in the era of the 1940s/50s, Billie is now exploring the 20s and 30s. She is intrigued by the feminist movement of the 1920s, where women dressed more like men. The feminine creatures, muscly features, lends herself to hermaphroditic performances where she can perform both as a male or female, or half and half. Billie is known for pushing boundaries and she is keen on breaking down the perception of Burlesque as just being stripping. Billie sees Burlesque as the perfect opportunity to blend different styles and incorporate theatre, humour and fitness into her mesmerising routines. Photo by Natedogg Promotions
