COMPRENDE? One of the first Spanish words I learned as a child from an old Clint Eastwood western. I wasnt willing to expand my Spanish vocabulary or understanding because of it though. Not very willing to study hard and learn Spanish in high school at all. It just seemed un-interesting, too hard for me to grasp, and there were too many other important things I wanted to learn... At least I passed. :-) I was willing/wanting to pass but weak in applying myself ... Jesus said to the disciples in the garden... ...The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Matt. 26:41b Have you ever read something that wasnt interesting or something that was as understandable to you as Spanish ...? (unless you can read Spanish...). Lets just say something beyond your comprehension or knowledge level... What about trying to read but you had so much on your agenda that you could not concentrate on what you were reading? A lot of things get in the way when we try to read and understand the bible. Most of these things are of the flesh, and there is an enemy who wants to confuse, distort, and use those things of our human-nature to frustrate our efforts. The study/reading of Gods word takes more than our head knowledge and our understanding. While it does take our intentional effort, we need the Lords help and discernment. OUR PART: Yes we have a part in our comprehension. Scripture tells us that the Apostle Paul disciplined, himself/his flesh... He beat it into submission 1 Cor. 9:27... The swats didnt help me learn Spanish but they made me aware that I could try harder and do better. I had to discipline myself to focus and study. Jesus said that all we need to do is knock, seek, and ask... The door will be opened, we will find, and be given too...Matt. 7:7 Discover the word again. Follow Matt. 7:7 before you read/study the bible and you will be in awe at how He will open your understanding. GODS PART: Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, (Luke 24:45 NASB)
