COMPROMISED MEDIA: Standard group drafted to undertake dirty work for Jubilee government It becoming rather too desperate for Jubilee. Not only has the majority leader now taken to personally stalking opposition leaders by calling up journalists and enquiring about the utterances of the CORD leader, but we have it on record through credible sources, that three (3) senior state house officials (names withheld) met with senior management of the Standard/KTN Group (names withheld) at a secret location in Nairobi (withheld) in what is being whispered to be a grand scheme for the media house to produce propaganda that will divert national attention from President Uhuru’s recent gaffes in UAE as well as cover-up for their mismanagement of national security matters. The standard is reportedly being sold by ex-President Moi family to new owners current President Uhuru family. The result of this diabolical meeting is that, as a start, the STANDARD/KTN group through, KTN Leo TV, will be running a feature on Friday (tomorrow), incidentally same day the late Hon Kajwang is to be buried, in what is intended to portray Opposition Leader Raila Odinga in bad light. The intention is to deflect attention at President Uhuru’s shocking speech that Kenyans should be responsible for their own security, and instead put the focus on the opposition leader as the originator of widespread problems Kenyans are facing as a nation. Rather than admit failure, invite opposition for structured talks, the Jubilee regime wants to hide behind propaganda Suddenly people like Shem Ochuodho, rejected in the last elections as Paul Muite’s running mate, have been resurrected to remind us Tom Mboya “would have been better Luo leader”. Raphael Tuju, a disgraced former cabinet minister, himself pulled out of the race for the presidency after serving his role as a project, is to appear on the the feature and talk about a traumatised Luo nation. The Standard has also fished a former Luo Council of Elders Chairman Riaga Omolo, known for his penchant receiving funds in the name of being an elder, and Omolo will be making such unbelievable statements as ”God has refused a Raila presidency”. This time around, instead of bringing predictable clips from the 1982 coup attempt, the Standard will dig up up footage from 2007 former V-P Kalonzo Muyoka fell out with Raila Odinga leading to two formation of Orange parties. The overwhelming corruption in mainstream media and open bias has become a very real threat to our nationhood and fledgling democracy. Kenyans designed a constitutional system with checks and balances but one that had no checks and balances for the mainstream media. This was implicitly because, as the fourth estate, the media is expected to professionally regulate as others do and that it would protect the citizens from the excess of government, by reporting the truth objectively and acting as a public watchdog. That responsibility has long been abrogated and mainstream media is now acting as a branch of the executive. It is sad that during the present time when Kenyans face a myriad of problems, the mainstream media has abandoned the people and is in bed with government.
