COMPUTER BREAKDOWN. Problem started one week after my birthday in October. I couldn’t get the CD ROM drive to work for burning pictures and making back up’s of my scripts. I thought the computer may need program installation, but there was nothing wrong with the Windows or anything except that the Nero Start Smart seemed to be redundant and under no circumstances would it run. Nero eight was problematic and even an internet update would not install. I managed to uninstall the program, but I couldn’t install it back from the driver disc. I decided to take the computer to the repair shop. I made a phone call and was told to take it down. Day was at the end so I promised for next day, but the next day was raining most of the day so I waited for an extra day. I had no trouble writing my stories, saving them in the hard drive or sharing them on the internet, only the write drive was playing up. I did my work and took the computer down to repairs. I left the computer over night and promised to be back for it in the morning. I did that happily and went home. Thursday morning I went down and the technician had trouble opening the write drive. When he did, he showed me that it was smoking. I saw that to be true. I can fix the computer he said, but the way it’s smoking, the computer will catch on fire and burn up. Change the drive I said, give me back the old one and I’ll take it home to sell for junk. Could you also install Nero 8 because I uninstalled it. He pulled out and returned me the Sony drive. How long have you had that? Two years I said, it’s time to change he said, two years is a long time, they don’t last for more than that these days, and they cannot be fixed either because nobody makes parts for them. They gave me a new one that was made by Samsung. Nero was installed back and I took the computer before lunch. I was able to do my writing and internet sharing in the afternoon, but I worked overtime into early evening to do my work for the day. CD burning and everything else is perfect now with no more trouble and I backed up several files that needed to be done before the problem began. The Sony CD Rom drive was dumped in the sack for scrap metal recycling and it was sold to the recycling depot last week. Miron Lovric, 23/12/2012.
