CONCLUSION Early cord clamping is not necessary for active management of the third stage of labour, and in view of the clear evidence that it has a significantly harmful effect on the neonatal circulation, it cannot be justified to facilitate neonatal resuscitation, cord blood gases or cord blood banking. There is no evidence that early cord clamping reduces the risk of neonatal jaundice or polycythemia.
