CONCLUSION Religion retrogresses the social order. It brings back the ancient mix of theocracy and monarchy into a democratic dispensation. Hence the god of man convinces mentally deficient subjects that a certain leader has been chosen by God! That, in a system based on the ballot box and the will of the people!!! You have these gods of men going round anointing candidates and saying God has chosen someone, when the choice is that of the people to install these charlatans and remove then at will in a functional democracy. Why is such right-thinking absent from people who regularly claim to commune with God? Why is the wisdom of heaven not leading to right thinking in the religious institutions? It is because they lack any such higher insight. Wisdom comes from continuous study and perfecting of rightly acquired and verified knowledge. It does not come from listening to invisible voices in one’s head. Democracy is an institution for independent people to choose how they will be led and organized, by electing representatives to further their desires. It is not godfatherism, oligarchy or autocracy like we have in Nigeria, where one man and a few people lord it over the rest in a brazen modification of monarchy. It has no place for chosen leaders or divinely appointed leaders. It in fact has no place for leaders at all. Because the people are not subservient to any man. They know what they want, they push for what they want and when it is the will of the majority, then the representatives (not leaders) of that majority are elected to execute their will. Simple!
