CONFUCIUS ON ZAKYNTHOS PORT/Ο ΚΟΜΦΟΥΚΙΟΣ ΣΤΟ ΛΘΜΑΝΙ ΖΑΚΥΝΘΟΥ The local mayor chose a square in the centre of Zakynthos bare of statues and art works that is not far from the citys port to place a statue of the bust of the great philosopher Confucius which was a gift to our city by the Region of Shandong, China. The bust gives a different, improved image of the otherwise downgraded square of Saint Lucas and the only objections heard by surrounding residents was to not block the statue by illegally parked vehicles along the tiled extent of the square. The gift was made by representatives of the Shandong Region of China within the framework of brotherhood between the two regions and, in continuation, their visit to our island around the beginning of September. The Chinese delegation is once again in Zakynthos today Saturday, October 4, and will be taking photos of the statues area to send to the Shandong Region in order to prepare for the second visit which will take place at the end of October which will also see the official unveiling of the bust in the presence of officials from the Chinese town with which Zakynthos maintains a brotherhood.
