CONFUSION OVER GRAND CHIEFS REPORTED ANNOUNCEMENT TO MOVE OUT OF GOVT TO THE OPPOSITION Opposition Leader Hon.Belden Namah, after welcoming former Prime Minister Sir Michael Somares reported move earlier today to join the Opposition in the next sitting, has since advised that he wasnt in parliament and did not personally hear Sir Michael Somares reported announcement that he intends to move to the Opposition in the next sitting of parliament - but was informed by his staff that Sir Michael said he will move to the other side - meaning Opposition. Keep listening to the 1pm NEWS for more on NAUFM/YUMIFM AND LEGENDFM That post has since been edited to state: Parliament Update by Reporter Samuel Raitano: Grand Chief Sir Michael has announced in Parliament that he will moving out of Govt benches in the next Parliament sitting. However, as per a copy of a statement received earlier this afternoon, the Grand Chief said today in Parliament: Mr Speaker, I wish to advise Parliament, I will move to the middle benches beginning today, as I do not believe that due process was followed creating a massive debt of over K3billion. Particularly that this debt is not reflected in our total debt stock of Papua New Guinea in our supplementary budget 2014 and 2015 budget. After being informed about the Grand Chiefs statement, the Leader of the Opposition pointed out that the Grand Chief in his time as PM has never recognized the middle bench. Well Grand Chief in his time as PM has never recognized middle bench. He always maintained that you are either in government or opposition,the Opposition Leader said. Perhaps the GC does intend to move to the Opposition in the next sitting and as per his statement (page attached) the GC has as of today moved out of the government to the middle benches...temporarily.
