CONGRATULATIONS HON. SAKUDA! Allow me to convey my warm message of congratulations to you and the people of Kajiado West on this historic opening of both the state- of-the art Kajiado West CDF office and ground breaking of Kajiado West vocational training centre. Kajiado West constituency is among the newest constituencies in Kenya born out of the new constitution. It is the biggest constituency in terms of size in the county and largely undeveloped. For the next coming few years, this constituency will be the most closely watched because of its huge potential on minerals and other natural resources. Recently, a Canadian firm has been licensed by the national government to do exploration study of oil and natural gas at several blocks in Magadi. When the results turn positive, we may also join Turkana and other counties in Kenya that have already struck large deposits of oil and natural gas. Kajiado West has also huge potential in wind energy. In Kipeto village, an american firm is about to commission a millions of dollars wind farm. At Ngong Hills, Brunner, a local company is also building a wind farm to generate tens of megawatts of electricity, which will later be sold to Kengen. At Mt. Suswa, Geothermal Development Company ( GDC) has already undertaken a feasibility study on geothermal power and soon drilling will start. At Mosiro ward, the government in conjunction with Danish government have expressed willingness to co-operate in generating hydro power at Enkare Ngiro river. Apart from this mega projects, Kajiado West is unbeatable in tourism sites and facilities. We have Oloolgisalie pre-historic site, Magadi hot springs, Shompole Conservancy, Enkusero Sampu Conservancy, Ngong Hills, Mt Suswa caves just to mention but a few. You will remember that in 2004, Kajiado West ( then Kajiado north constituency) paid hosts to two very important american personalities. Billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffet spend a couple of days at the exclusive Shompole eco-lodge during their holiday sojourn in Kenya. Kajiado West sub county is therefore the next frontier Kenyans will look for development and investment opportunities. The sub county administrator is therefore going to be one of the most influential man or woman and woman in the county as he/she will interact with almost the who and who in the country as they rush to cut business deals with the county. There is a common adage that says, Men have tried to shape the office to which they occupy but sometimes these men find themselves being shaped by the same office. Hon Moses ole Sakuda is the first occupant of this office. An office is not only the physical structure, it is a position. The MP must be willing to shape how things are done e.g on employment and tenders. He must be willing and ready to fight corruption, slay the dragon of clanism that continue to threaten the unity of the people, find ways how to arrest the rising rate of unemployment, generate ideas how to defeat abject poverty in the midst of plenty and of course how to tame political differences. I urge every patriotic residents of our constituency to give Hon Sakuda and indeed all other elected leaders the support they need to deliver to us the promises they pledged during the campaign period. Our MCAs from our 5 wards namely; Ewuaso Oo Nkidongi, Keekonyokie, Lodokilani, Magadi and Mosiro wards must from now on forge a working relationship with the MP for the common good of our people. At the end of the five years, Kajiado west residents will pass a judgement whether the man has shaped the office or has let himself to be shaped by his office. Let us meet there tomorrow, God willing.
