CONGRATULATIONS, THANET WANDERERS! Thanet Wanderers Under 18s are National Champions!!! Roared on by a considerable band of supporters at Bedford Blues Ground, Thanet Wanderers inflicted a first defeat in 28 matches for their rivals from Chislehurst, Old Elthamians, and became 2014 RFU Under 18 National Champions (plus Kent Champions and take the Emmo Cup!). First half tries from right wing Ryan Ashworth and two from centre Stuart Harrison gave Wanderers a 19-7 lead at half time. The mercurial Harrison completed his hat trick in the second half and there were two for open-side flanker Finn Tonry-Brown and one each for the blindside flanker Under 17 Josh Botchway and Tyler Webster on the wing. The reliable Ashworth converted five to complete a rout by 50 -19. This was a great day for Thanet Wanderers rugby as we became the first club outside of the National Leagues to take the Cup. Previous winner have included Gloucester and Harlequins so it will be great to see Thanet Wanderers added to the list. Congratulations to Mike Pond and his fellow coaches, Ron Connell, Dave Roe, Nik Robinson and Colin Brown and the team manager Steve Horey. Congratulations to the lads who won the cup; it is hoped some will continue their rugby careers at Thanet Wanderers. Their style of play has been much praised in their unbeaten run in Under 17 and Under 18 National competitions. Good luck to them all. Well done!!!!
