CONNECTING THE DOTS At the school board meeting on August 21st, - TopicsExpress

CONNECTING THE DOTS At the school board meeting on August 21st, there was an exchange between Ina Bendis (Trustee), Chris Stampolis (Trustee), Tayna Fisher (Assistant Sup.) and Michele Burchfiel (Director of Classified HR) about the after school programs at Peterson. For those regular attenders who have seen the Bendis/Stampolis attack many times, we knew that there was something more going on. (This was actually tame for them.) Listen from 0:24:00 to 0:34:00 santaclarausd.org/files/732939/bd%20mtg%208-21-14%20pt%203.mp3 As we began to question and ask other staff members about the exchange, we discovered that the real issue was actually about the fact that Stampolis had been asked to pick up his child within in 20 minutes of dismissal as it states in the handbook and is a requirement of all parents. He was not doing so. Apparently, not believing that this applied to him, the tardy pick-ups continued resulting in two altercations with Sue Harris, principal, (physical intimidation by Stampolis) where police were called in. The district provided personal security for Ms. Harris for three days but then it was removed. I have been told that the Principal is working an alternate schedule due to safety concerns. IS THIS NORMAL? SHOULD BOARD MEMBERS BE PHYSICALLY INTIMIDATING STAFF? Now we are to this upcoming board meeting where there is a presentation about after school programs and an agenda item about adding after school library time ONLY at Peterson. Why is this an issue? 1. Rewards bad behavior. Self-serving. Abuse of power. 2. There are plenty of after-school programs at Peterson for the students to participate in. 3. Staff was not involved in this recommendation. 4. Unlike the Y or extended care, this would cost the district money. And a host of other reasons.... (As always, if you have any clarifying information, please share.)
