CONNOLLYS CORNER - During our Ash Wednesday service Bill will begin a special Lent and Easter Series titled: A Disciples Job Description: 8 Important Characteristics. Bill will be adapting and adding to a wonderful study document he found a few years ago from a Lutheran organization titled: Seven Faith Practices for A Living Faith. A brief introduction to that series stated: Followers of Jesus are inspired to develop practices and patterns for living that characterize a life that is devoted to daily discipleship. Seven common practices have been identified as key to model and nurture with each one being part of a disciples job description. Bill has expanded the series to 8 practices or characteristics, as he calls them, to allow for an introduction on Lent 1, the next five Sundays in Lent which includes Palm/Passion Sunday, then Maundy Thursday, and both the Easter Services (granted we have a sunrise service this year... TBA). As you will note below, Bill has described Ash Wednesdays announcement and information about the series as the preface which makes the series to include a total of 10 messages. I believe Lent and Easter provide the perfect opportunity for us to be reminded of the importance of discipleship since Jesus spent his last days on the final journey to Jerusalem teaching his followers what is meant to be His disciples. Dont think because its a series if you miss one Sunday youll be lost because each message will show its connection to the series. Bill will supply copies of prior messages in the Narthex for you to take home so that eventually they could be bound together for a helpful booklet for review, reflection, and reaching out to others.
