CONTEST Legislator Sarah S. Anker Announces: Suffolk Countys Bullying Awarness MUSIC VIDEO CONTEST Contest Deadline: February 1, 2015 Entry requirements Suffolk County residents ages 13-18 One entry per student All entries must be submitted through a YouTube link to: [email protected] Judges Mike DelGuidice, Big Shot Anthony Mingoia, Patent Pending Danny “Energetic” Rivera, AMA Legislator Sarah Anker invites Suffolk County students ages 13-18 to participate in a music video contest, in an effort to help address the concerns of bullying. “According to 2010 Bullying Statistics, 160,000 children miss school each day for fear of being bullied,” said Legislator Anker, County Chairwoman of Education and Information Technology Committee. “Having been a victim of bullying myself, I understand how important it is to speak up.” By working with Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County’s Information Technology Department, Department of Health, Youth Bureau and the Suffolk County Police Department, Legislator Anker initiated the creation of a bullying awareness website. The website includes comprehensive bullying awareness resources and information for students, parents, and faculty. As of 2012, New York State requires all public school districts to designate a school staff member as a Dignity Act Coordinator (DAC) to protect students from harassment, discrimination and bullying. This website includes a list of each school district’s DAC, which is provided as a resource for students who may encounter bullying. Entry submissions are due on February 1, 2015. The music video clip must communicate the issue of bullying and illustrate ways that their peers can address this serious issue. We are looking for a short video clip posted through a YouTube account to be no more than 1 minute in length. Restrictions: No profanity, no nudity, no violence, no use of copyright materials Announcing Contest Winners The winner of the contest will be announced on March 1, 2015 The 1st Place Winner will have their video posted on our website, receive a $500 cash prize*, and will be invited to perform their song at Legislator Sarah Anker’s Summer Concert Series.
