CONTINUATION OF STORM CHASING ADVENTURE: By The Tornado Spot (Shawn Strader) So we (Gary Bailey and I) just escaped the enormous El Reno F-5 tornado on May 31 and now had arrived at a gas station on Highway 152 in Mustang, Oklahoma. I really had to go to the bathroom but unfortunately the power was out due to a tornado hitting the area earlier that night. It was around 7 pm and I decided to pee on the back side of the building. The area was flooded and it was raining extremely hard at the time. Then suddenly the rain stopped and the tornado sirens began going off. I look to the sky to find a huge dark rotating wall cloud, the clouds were rotating so violently. I rush to the front of the store where I find several people looking towards the sky; there was a funnel dropping down from the huge dark wall cloud. There was no place to take cover but thankfully the funnel never dropped to the ground. About 10 minutes later the wall cloud dissipated and the golf ball size hail and strong winds would move in. The hail hit some much impact that it was setting of the alarms of cars at the gas station. Reports of tornadoes were being made in Mustang over the weather radio. We kept looking for the actual tornado we just experienced the downdrafts. These downdrafts although produced winds in excess of 90-100 MPH and the street lights at the intersection were moving back and forth violently. We stayed at the gas station for about an hour as we called all our family to make sure they were safe. A total of 3 tornadoes hit Mustang, Oklahoma that day causing numerous damage such as snapped trees, roof damage and downed powerlines. Flooding was also a huge problem in the Oklahoma City area around SW 44th and Reno. This day was the most thrilling but dangerous (scary) day I have ever experienced. I thank God that we made it out of there alive and my prayers go out to the victims that lost their lives that day. (RIP Team Twistex as well as the other fatalities that died this tragic day. You will surely be missed)
