COPE YOUTH WELCOMES THE SUSPENSION OF THE NYDA’s CEO The Congress of the People Youth Movement notes and welcomes the suspension of Steven Ngubeni, the CEO of the NYDA. The NYDA’s board has finally heeded the call led by COPEYM to do thorough investigations on the conduct of Steven Ngubeni into irregularities in the running of the NYDA. We have requested the Public Protector’s office to investigate two cases of irregularities which also includes the awarding of the R22 million catering contract Ngubeni gave to his wife’s uncle during the ‘Kissing Festival’ which was meant a World Festival of Students and Youth. We are also question his recent role on R20 million of taxpayers’ money spent on buying music equipment at inflated prices for up-and-coming DJs for amateur DJs and wannabe music producers at R96 000 for each musical instrument. Steven Ngubeni defended the deal with Madlosi Entertainment, owned by Kaya FM station manager Greg Maloka and Kalawa Jazzme’s Oskido Mdlongwa, we welcome the investigations set up by the Chairman of NYDA, Yershen Pillay. While we welcome the call made by the NYDA and the internal investigations taking place within the NYDA, however we are renewing our call for the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) to be disbanded and call for the President to set a national youth ministry to look solely at the issues of the youth and implement youth related programs. The NYDA has become a lost cause and an embarrassment to the cause of the youth in South Africa. It has become a liability to the government and failing to address youth problems and instead has become a cash cow for the ANCYL, where most of the members of NYDA came from and more goes to enrich the NYDA members through high inflated salaries. Taxpayers money meant to develop our country’s youth have been spent on needless exercises and not reaching the unemployed young people of this country. We call for the Minister in the President’s office to carefully revise its need for the NYDA and realize that it is a misrepresentation of the needs of South Africa’s youth. Our government need to device means to create a better system for the development of South African Youth.
