COPYRIGHT...DEAD! Copyright is an anachronism. It is dying and will soon be dead. In law, it is Mallem Prohibitim, rather than Mallem Se. Civilized societies existed for millenniums before the Queen Anne acts of the early 17th century mandated payment to the state for protection of intellectual property. In a free society, when you sell, give or otherwise transfer your property to me, I have the right to do with it as I wish. I may copy it, destroy it, sell it, or do any number of things with what (45 rpm records for example) is now my property. The state should not use its monopoly of force to insure that intellectual property be given a special status over real property. This is actually a GOOD THING for artists. The business model has undergone a profound paradigm shift. The money for musical artists is now on the road, where they get to keep most of the proceeds. Oppose this to working for say, the Chess Brothers, where a big star like Little Richard was lucky to get a 1/2 penny on the sale of a single. Copyright has been a stranglehold on the musical world. Its end will be a flowering of art and commerce together as not seen in the industrial age. Joe
