CORAM DEO -2 “According to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death” Philippians 1:20 In our previous meditation we introduced the concept of Coram Deo which we defined as something happening in the presence of, or before the face of, God. There is a sense in which we can stretch our understanding of this idea. The fact that God is Omniscient and Omnipresent, knowing everything and being in every place at the same time means whatever takes place is actually before Him. The writer of Hebrews put paid to that by saying, “And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13). But not all that takes place are at His instance or done to honour Him. Jesus did not only do everything before the Father but at His instance also. Moreover, He did everything to uphold the honour and the integrity of the Father who sent Him. From this our expanded meaning of living Coram Deo is to do all things in the presence of God, by His express permission and to His glory alone. FURTHER STUDY: JOHN 8:25-30 PRAYER: Father, let Christ be honoured in my ways every day.
