COREdevotional by COREteam member Nikita Quartey Discernment by definition is the act or process of exhibiting keen insight or good judgement. From a Christian perspective, this keen insight and good judgement comes from revelation of the heart of the all-knowing God for the thing which you are aiming to get insight into. I feel discernment in daily life (as part of a Culture of Revival) is so key and so important. Often when we think of discernment we think of particular men of God (MOGs) who are able to discern spirits and who show this at events or gatherings, usually for deliverance purposes, to the glory of God. That is great but what Im saying is, discernment is not just for certain MOGs or for certain times. If we have the Holy Spirit living and brewing up a fire within us, why then should we miss out on utilising Him to the full potential for which He was given to us? When youre going out, ask the Holy Spirit to lead you. Discern whether the place that youre going to is pleasing to or approved by Him or not. And even if it is normally, discern whether it is on His heart for you to go or be there today. Trust whatever He says. Discern the roots behind the people you associate with and talk to and the roots behind what theyre saying. The bible says You will fully recognize them by their fruits. Do people pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? (Matthew 7:16 AMP). What I am not saying is discern so you can judge and run away from people. What I am saying is sometimes a person may not tell you what theyre going through or whats going on within but then paying more attention to the fruits that are being shown and sharper discernment will enable you to pray for them and to come to the realisation perhaps of your purpose in their life eg, to show love, to model Christ, to testify (not just verbally) of the freedom in Him etc. Sometimes the Holy Spirit may say it is wise to stay away from the person for some time, either for your own good or for theirs or even for both. This is all done in love and dont think that who will be there to model Christ for them is an excuse for disobedience. Father says He knew them before they were even formed in their mothers womb (Jeremiah 1 v 5), and Father doesnt make half-baked plans. So discernment ... Be willing and open and ask to see and gain revelation of the God perspective on everything. And as your sight and perspective through the discernment of Gods heart changes, so you become more and more conformed to the beautiful image of Christ.
