CORNISH GUARDIAN EAST CORNWALL PREMIER LEAGUE MORWENSTOW 1 CALLINGTON TOWN 0 Controversial Penalty decides dour encounter A poor game on a difficult surface from two sides bereft of players was fittingly decided by one refereeing decision. Callington were missing seven regular first team players and it showed as they struggled to break down a Morwenstow who were also down to a bare starting lineup and no manager. With the wind and slight slope on their side in the first period, Callington looked laboured and, with players out of position all over the park, it was not surprising that they struggled to create flowing moves. However, as the half went on, they began to find their feet and for a while looked more likely to break the deadlock, but without really testing the home keeper. In the second period it was the home side who came back into the game but were grateful to a strange refereeing decision for their eventual winning goal. The ball was far out on the left when a Town player tackled the attacker. Now few thought it was a free kick, but even worse was to follow when the referee pointed to the spot. The tackle appeared to be a metre outside the box and in a different position to that which the official pointed to when dealing with the obvious complaints from the Town players. From the resultant spot kick Norman Foster was enough to secure a first win of the season for the home side and leave Callington searching that first illusive league victory.
