COROWA RSL SQUASH Monday Night Comp Semi Final Played 18 Nov 2013 Jaguars def Rebels 2 Rubbers 8 games 112 points to 2 Rubbers 7 games 95 points. Mark Nesbitt b(Rebels) def Graeme Leslie 1 Rubber 3 games 43 points to 2 games 35 points. This was a great match. Even after Graeme won the 4th game, and therefore the match, both players still gave it their all in the 5th with Mark winning 10/8. That’s the way the game should be played. Well done to both players. The people who watched this match were appreciative of the standard of squash played. Both players would have been sore the next day Simon Pyle (Jaguars) def Jane Bromwich 1 Rubber 3 games 35 points to 1 game 22 points. Jane did really well to get a game off the best No 2 in the competition. She tried very hard , but Simon was always in control. Mark Massey (Rebels) def Alan Glenn 1 Rubber 3 games 27 points to 15 points. It’s easy to see the way Mark plays his shots that he’s played a pretty good level of squash in his earlier days. Alan was no match for Mark’s experience, but he gave it his best shot, which is commendable. Chris Reilly (Jaguars) def Rory Stones 1 Rubber 3 games 27 points to 3 points. Chris is a lot more experienced than Rory , so this result was not unexpected. Demons def Swans (just) 2 rubbers 6 games 71 points to 2 Rubbers 6 games 69 points. Brett Arnold (Demons) def Phil LeLieve 1 Rubber 3 games 27 points to 5 points. Brett’s been playing pretty good squash over the past month or so, this match against Phil was no exception, as Phil found out. It’s not easy playing as a No 1, Phil can testify to that. John Kostiw (Swans) def Chanelle Upton 1 Rubber 3 games 28 points to 11 points. John has a game style that Chanelle just does not like. When she’s behind him, he plays the ball short, when she’s in front of him, he plays it to the back of the court. It’s the 2nd principle of squash. Helen Fuge (Swans) def Jamie Warner 1 Rubber3 games 27 points to 6 points. Jamie was the walking wounded, so Helen didn’t have too many problems with him. She’s got a very effective front court short game, if she’s given the opportunities to play it. Jamie gave her those opportunities. Marg Gillick (Demons) def Audra Holden (Filling in for Frank Fitzgerald) 1 Rubber 3 games 27 points to 9 points. Marg was just too experienced for Audra. She accidently let it slip that she’s been playing squash for over 40 years, this is Audra’s first season. Marg got many points by doing back hand boasts from the front of the court, Audra was stuck behind her and just couldn’t get to them. Thursday Night Comp Semi Finals Played 21 Nov 2013 Wombats def Emus 3 Rubbers 11 games 253 points to 2 Rubbers 9 games 229 points. Graeme Leslie def Chris Rubbechi Chris won the 1st 2 games, Graeme the 3rd, but Chris couldn’t continue because a very sever toothache. He did well to play 3 games (and win 2 of them ) in that state. Once again Graeme’s side is in the Grand Final. If anyone wants to play in a Grand Final next year see if you can into his side. He seems to make it a habit of getting into the Grand Final each season (LOL) Jim McGrath (Wombats) def Mark Chappell 1 Rubber 3 games 45 points to 32 points. Mark’s quick, real quick, but Jim was just too experienced. Zane Culhane (Emus) def Jason Carroll (filling in for Frank Fitzgerald) 1 rubber 3 games 56 points to 1 game 43 points. This was a big step up for Jason (so big in fact he used his new racquet) He normally plays as a number 5 and filled in at No 3. Zane was always in control in this match , but Jason gave him a run for his money. Luke Emonson (Wombats) def Audra Holden (filling in for Stu Butler) 1 rubber 3 games 57 points to 1 game 47 points .This was Audra’s 2nd match for the night. She didn’t have much of a breather from her earlier match, but never the less she showed real endeavor, there were shots that she couldn’t get to, but still tried hard to get to them. Good to see!. Luke, after getting a smack on the bridge on the bridge of his nose with a follow through, recovered and won in 4. This was an entertaining match. Jason Carroll (Emus) def Audra Holden 1 Rubber 3 games 51 points to 1 game 47 points. Jason got many points by serving hard, and straight, at Audra, and she couldn’t do anything with them, yet alone get out of the way. When given the opportunities she played some good shots Lions def Galahs Dylan Leslie (Lions) def Damien Pleming 1 Rubber 3 games 57 points to 2 games 47 points. This was a big improvement by Damien, or a poorer game by Dylan because when they met the previous week Damien only got 23 points, this time he got 2 games and 47 points. Both players still hit the ball way too hard. The games about pace and place not bash and dash. Dylan knows what his other flaw is. Simon Pyle (Lions) def Chanelle Upton 1 Rubber3 games 47 points to 28 points. Chanelle played as well as Simon let her. He’s got this uncanny ability to get to shots at the back of the court, which looked, by all accounts, winners, but he got them back into play. He’ll give some of the Number 1’s a run for their money next season Jason Kerr and Donna Newbold Jason won on a forfeit. Luke Nichols (Galahs) def Chris Reilly 1 Rubber 3 games 45 points. Luke was just too quick for Chris. Luke’s game has improved heaps, now all he has to do is get some good shots into his game and he’ll do well next season. Improving his shots, and stroke technique will come with the more games he plays Adrian Roach(Lions) def Cameron Lambert 1 Rubber 3 games 55 points to 1 game 32 points. Camo did really well to get a game off Adrian , who’s youth, long legs, and speed enable him to get to most shots. Well done Camo!!
