CORRECT FERTILIZER TYPES: Dear fellow farmers, hardly a day passes before someone asking about the correct type and rate of fertilizer to use. Usually answers come flowing thick and fast, but I believe this is the correct position: Fertilizer type and rate is not a straight answer. It depends on: 1. Crop 2. Stage of growth 3. Agro-ecological zone and moisture/rainfall 4. Type and State of the soil 5. History of fertilizer application on the farm 6. Yield expectations or targets In conclusion: GO FOR SOIL ANALYSIS in order to get the correct fertilizer recommendations. Analyse your soils at least once in every three years.
