COUNCIL COMMITTEE MEETINGS - Today I had an Audit, Finance and Risk Committee meeting and Regulatory and Environment Committee meeting. In case you missed it, attached is an interesting article from the Northern Advocate where Councillor Ann Court responds comments by Deputy Prime Minister Bill English about Councils planning processes being to blame for stopping affordable housing being built. We discussed at length Councils liability if something goes wrong, ultimately the ratepayers have had to pay for this (e.g. leaky homes). So there is a balance we need to achieve. Our committee are continually looking at ways to improve our building and resource consent services and we are also working collaboratively with practitioners to achieve this. Our next Council meeting is on 30 October 2014 at Council Chambers in Kaikohe. Remember meeting are open to the public and you are welcome to attend.
