COUNTDOWN TO BRAZIL 2014: SUPER EAGLES 1994 Vs 2014 World Cup, Brazil 2014 is just by the corner, the Super Eagles were coincidentally grouped alongside Argentina, just as USA 1994. Nigeria finally reached the World Cup for the first time in history in 1994. They were managed by Clemens Westerhof. In February,1994 at Tunisia, the Super Eagles of Nigeria won the African Nations Cup, and also had a good World Cup outing in USA, June, 1994 by reaching the last 16th after winning 2 of the 3 groups stage matches, as inspired and captained by the current Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi. Nigeria topped its group which included Argentina, Bulgaria, and Greece. In its first game Nigeria defeated Bulgaria 3–0, lost to Argentina 1–2, and qualified for the second round after a 2–0 victory over Greece. In the second round Nigeria played Italy and took the lead with a goal from Amunike at 25 min. Nigeria were within two minutes of qualifying for the Quarterfinals of the 1994 World Cup in the game against Italy but Roberto Baggio scored to take the game to extra time. He also scored the eventual winning goal in a spot kick(penalty) after a wrong decision by the Referee. The game ended 2–1 in favour of the Italia. Ironically, after two decades, Nigeria won the Nations Cup(2013), coached by Stephen Keshi(1994 captain). Do you think Super Eagles will perform better than second round or the last 16th in Brazil? Which squad is better 1994 or 2014? 1994 SUPER EAGLES SQUAD NAME D.O.B.
