COUNTDOWN TO THE MOTHER OF ALL DEMONSTRATIONS IN MERU COUNTY- 35 DAYS TO GO Yester night’s Revolution Council meeting resolved among other things to join and coordinate the PEACEFUL mass protests that the business community in Meru County is planning. THREE KEY AREAS OF CONCERN 1. The passing (by a minority of MCAs) of a bill late last year that has increased the cost of Business Permits from 4,500 to 18,900 (a whopping 320%) annually, commencing March 2015. This act is nefarious, probate and farcical. This will kill business and worsen the already worse economic status of our county. This is a typological Marxian anti-thesis of growth. 2. The imminent passage of a draconian Water Bill in Meru County assembly that seeks to organize the community into co-operatives (from water project groups) to hasten the installing of water meters and serving of Water Bills. How can a county government Meterise our water taps yet it contributed nothing in the whole water project?? This lack of openness and concern for the people’s economic adversity is seriously ad nauseam. It atavistic to the defunct Municipal Council. 3. The disenfranchisement of Coffee and Miraa farmers is a faux pas that should not have happened with the necessary tremor absorbers in the ever changing world market. The County government is constructing Miraa markets to collect taxes per day instead of identifying new markets and constructing dams to diversify agriculture. Coffee farmers have been conned and connived of their produce and all we have seen is the governor’s Press statement. NO ACTION!! DEMANDS: 1. That the governor vetoes the new Permit rates forthwith. The governor should cut business permits from 4,500 to 0 to spur business growth and creation of jobs. 2. The water Bill must be killed before it sees the light of day. If those meters are installed, we will unpluck them one by one. 3. Regarding our farmers, the streets will tell better. NOTE. • The protests dates will be announced soon but its mid-February. • On the D-day come with the following: gloves, apron, flat shoes(ladies) gumboots (men • The Police are called upon to exhibit decorum, provide security and NEVER BE TEMPTED TO JOIN THE PROTEST. • The protests will take place simultaneously in all major towns all over the county: #NOMERCY
