COUNTRY / ROCK & ROLL I was raised on country music , the old country music I should say. It was nothing to here my family talk about country music. We could all be sitting around the table at supper time and talking music, all nine of us, Mom & Dad, myself and my two brothers and four sisters. We use to go over to Fort Negley on Sundays and watch country music performers such as Jeannie Shepard , Teddy & Dole Wilburn, George Morgan, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Porter Waggoner I could go on and on. They were one of us, never were called a star. Pull up in there own car ball glove in hand, pat you on the head as they would walk by. We all would be sitting in the bleachers with the wifes or who ever. They were just plain old home folks. I remember Porter was living on Berry road in Berry Hill in a brick level, anybody could just pull in his drive , his house wasnt no more than fifty feet from the road, no iron gates or security personnel on the grounds for crying out loud, which he remained the same up to his passing. It was nothing to walk in at Arnolds Country Kitchen and get your lunch and find a place to sit. A many of times Ive had the pleasure of sitting down with Porter and eat my lunch and have a good conversation with him or any other artist . The same goes at Hap Towne, Ive sir with Pam & her dad Mel Tillis and many other artist also . My oldest brothers Sunday school teacher was Marty Robbins wife Marizona and there two kids Ronnie and Janet , which we had visited there home the same as they visited ours . You know those were the good ole days . You know a lot of those people are still around. Take for instance we have a Country Music and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member who lives among neighbors such as you and I . I mean you see her in the aisle of local grocery stores. And yes she does speak. That of course would Brenda Lee and her husband Ronnie. But funny how things change. Now day the artist wont give you the time of day. WRONG. even living in mansions there still carry on the old traditions of walking among us. Before retiring in the line of work Ive met on several occasions Garth Brooks and have had the pleasure to have been to his home a many of times and was on first name bases. Also the same with Alan Jackson , Ronnie Dunn , Kix Brooks. The one and only George & Nancy Jones, you dont get no better than Nancy Jones. I could mention a hundred of others and would no be name dropping . Now the young guns have arrived , I mean the young, young guns such as Carrie Underwood , Taylor Swift, Miranda & Blake,Keith Urban, Brad Paisley , Luke Bryan , Eric Church, Georgia / Florida Line, And The Band Perry a family Po a sister Kimberly and her two brothers Reid & Neil . And there are many more to many to mention. But just want to mention , not only have these Young Guns made it in Fame and Fortune, they have also made it with there heart. The way they have paid back in so many ways has been a blessing, and I for one are o grateful, thankful, and more than anything else is they now call Nashville there HOME. WELCOME , now Play your music and play it LOUD !!!
