COURIER-JOURNAL ENDORSES MEEKS IN THE 42nd DISTRICT HOUSE RACE ============== I would like to thank the C-J Editorial Board for their endorsement in my November 4 General Election House race. Ours is the most diverse - economically, socially, educationally and racially - in the state, and I work diligently to know and respond to its diverse needs. I am pleased the Editorial Board recognizes my work and experience improving higher education in the state; my demonstrated commitment to human services, to our Senior Citizens and my support for the hard working men and women who are raising families in our state. They recognize passage of my DNA Bill is effectively bringing justice to those in our legal and penal systems and they understand the value of my bill protecting young drivers and their families throughout the state. I am also pleased to have the honor of sponsoring legislation establishing, and then being appointed by the Governor to serve on, the Native American Heritage --and other state sponsored --Commissions. Additionally, I have accepted the invitation to serve on the Board of the Clifton Center. The Editorial Board appreciates my diligence keeping in touch with 42nd District residents with an annual District wide survey; weekly legislative session updates; interim session meeting updates; personal responses to my green slips; my attendance and participation in neighborhood and community meetings and events and my general visibility throughout the District. The Board recognizes my consistent support for progressive policies as restoration of voting rights for ex-offenders and former felons and for structurally reforming our states income tax system. And while I am a proud Democrat, I have never been a blind follower and I often work across Party lines and will not hesitate to call on my own Party to live up to its highest ideals when it falls short. We are also continuing our work to expand economic opportunity in the 42nd District by working in partnership with local officials; improving Dixie Highway; expanding Cane Run Road; bringing new, market rate housing to the district and insuring District residents know of Job & Career Fairs going on.
