COURTROOM COMEDIES: Arrogant Attorney, trying to impress his pinhead loser client by being very dramatic, is laying into a Guardian Ad Litem in court on a matter involving a minor: Your honor, this GAL is not doing her job. Judge, interruping (peering over his glasses with a bemused look): Excuse me counsel...With Great Power Comes Great Responisibilty? A-Hole Attorney: Yes, your honor, you see... Judge: Thats from Spiderman, that quote. Right? Marvel Comics. Written by Stan Lee, correct counsel? (A Pause. Silence descends the courtroom. Court Reporter stops typing. All eyes turn to Clarence Darrow , version 2.0) Attorney: Um......yes, I think so. (pause) Spiderman. Yes Judge (leaning back in his chair, hands clasped in front of him across his belly): OK, I see. You are citing to Spiderman as authority. OK Lets see, there is the US Supreme Court, the Minnesota Supreme Court, Federal and State Appellate Courts, case law and now......Spiderman.....as precedence that this court is bound to follow. Stare Decsisi and all that. Right counsel? (pause) Attorney: Um...well, no.... Judge: Because I dont know the proper Blue Book citation for Spiderman for my Fiindings and Order. Do you, counsel? Attorney (now looking as if he had just swallowed a cup of horseradish): I am...um....just using it as...um....persuasion, illustrative language, your honor. Judge: Oh! I see: Rhetoric! Very good counsel. Continue your argument. He lost the motion.
