COURTS: A North Wales footballer who headbutted a referee after being sent off during a match has been locked up for a total of two years. Jason Lee Roberts from Caernarfon hit the official in the mouth causing a split lip and injuries to his teeth which required dental treatment. The 24-year-old of Cae’r Saint, Caernarfon admitted a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm at an earlier hearing. Today he admitted breaching a suspended prison sentence imposed in March this year, after he admitted causing criminal damage at his former partner’s home and assaulting two police officers, one by a headbutt while he was in handcuffs. Jailing him Judge Merfyn Hughes QC, at Caernarfon Crown Court , said: “You have a propensity for using your head as a weapon.” The judge added he was concerned Roberts had previous convictions for violence and “saw no purpose” in suspending any sentence. He activated the 12 month suspended sentence and imposed a separate 12 month jail term for attacking the referee. That sentence to be served consecutively.
