COURTS: NAIROBI COUNTY GOVT SECRETARY JAILED. Nairobi County Government Secretary Lilian Ndegwa will now serve three months in jail for contempt of court. High Court judge George Odunga ordered the police to arrest the officer and present her to court for subsequent jailing. This is after she disobeyed court orders directing her to appear before the court and explain how she will effect payment of debts to a Nairobi law firm for services it rendered. Ndegwa was not in the court when the judge gave the three month sentence. Odunga ordered Central Police Station bosses to arrest Ndegwa and present her before court for sentencing after she ignored orders issued before her and her lawyer last week. The Nairobi County Secretary had last week been ordered to appear before court in person to explain how the county intended to pay a law firm over 30 million owed in legal fees. However, Ndegwa’s lawyer told the court that she did not appear in court today due to their misunderstanding of the last court order. The case will come up for mention on November 5th for further directions. Ndegwa’s arrest comes barely a week after Justice Odunga warned that the courts will not entertain acts of impunity and that the courts will fully apply the rule of law. Source: Citizen News
