CPNSC - Save our Track, Save our Race Firstly, a date for your diary. Our 2015 race will take place on Sunday 10 May. Entries will open early in 2015. We will email you to give you advance warning as this years race sold out in less than eight hours! Secondly, as some of you will be aware the overall responsibility for the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre (CPNSC) was moved from Bromley Council to the Mayor of London in 2012. The Mayor has launched a consultation process with proposals for its future. The current plans for the CPNSC are now separate from any development of the wider Park and from the proposals of the Chinese developer. There are implications for CPT in the new plan. The good news is that the 50m swimming pool will be retained, however the athletics track is seen as under used and unnecessary. In the four options for the development of the stadium site two show the track and two don’t - we would really like to influence this outcome. Finally, whatever you might think of the overall development (quite a bit of which makes sense and does mean a long term CPNSC presence) there is another implication for CPT in that the perimeter road falls partly within the CPNSC remit and partly in the wider park. Whether a linked piece of tarmac would remain around the park is unclear on the plans. If it were to lose its continuity there would be implications for our race - No Road / No Race. If you could fill in the Mayor’s survey indicating your dissatisfaction it could make a real difference to the future of our race, the only Club run full sprint distance race in London. The survey takes less than three minutes to complete. The online survey takes you through the plans. Staff from City Hall will be at the CPNSC on Saturday 18 October from 09:30-17:00 if you want to talk face to face. We look forward to seeing you in 2015, which hopefully wont be our last Crystal Palace Triathlon. Thank you for your support. Regards Karen CPT Possible response to the survey is below in case you just want to copy and paste. I am pleased the long-term presence of the CPNSC would be secured by the implementation of these proposals. I am fully supportive of the proposed use of the main sports centre and the ongoing presence of a 50m swimming pool facility in SE London. I am very dissatisfied by the threat to the public athletics track. With only one other public track available in the five boroughs that surround the CPNSC this is a vital facility for local running, triathlon and sports clubs along with the many local schools that use it for their sports days and regular training. Its disappearance would also severely undermine the scope of the London Youth Games. Its loss as a facility would be devastating for many and I strongly support the adoption of option 1 or 3 in the proposed stadium site development. I am also concerned that the continuity of the perimeter road should be maintained through this development. Triathlon is the fastest growing participation sport in the country and the Crystal Palace venue provides the only closed road venue for a full triathlon in London barring Hyde Park. As a result it hosts several triathlons each year with over 1750 participants including nearly 300 children from London and the South East. The continuous perimeter road is key to these events for the cycling section - the local roads do not provide a safe option for such a race
