CPR Skills An Everyday Reward When Kristy Dale arrived at Woolworths Culburra to begin her shift as Assistant Store Manager on 3 June 2013, she had no idea she would end up saving someone’s life. After receiving a call from the Customer Service desk informing her that a lady had fallen over in the store, Kristy and her co-worker Kathryn Stallard, raced to find a 57 year old woman suffering from a major heart attack and not breathing. As 000 was called, Kristy says her instincts took over. She commenced CPR until Paramedics arrived, a move which saved the woman’s life. “All the training in the world can’t prepare you for the real thing but when it comes to crunch time you just do it,” said Kristy. After gaining her Bronze Medallion through Moruya SLSC as a teenager, Kristy has kept her First Aid and CPR skills up to date. “I have never had to use my training since receiving it but wow, everyone just needs to do it because you never know where or when you might need those skills,” said Kristy. The customer is expected to make a full recovery. Surf Life Saving NSW not only provides training to all of the State’s lifesavers but also offers a range of training courses to individuals and businesses in First Aid and CPR.
