CRAIG PARTICIPATES IN READING ACROSS AMERICA Upton, MA – Upton Finance Committee member Shawn Craig, who will be announcing shortly his candidacy for State Representative, participated as a guest reader at Memorial School’s Read Across America Celebration on Thursday of this week. The national program serves to motivate and promote awareness among children and teens to read. “I was happy to participate in this literacy program in which people come together to share in the joy of reading. I strongly believe that we must prepare the next generation to compete in the new global marketplace. It starts with reading comprehension,” said Craig. Reading Across America takes place annually near March 2nd, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, known for his writing of children’s books. Craig read the Dr. Seuss book entitled “I Wish I Had Duck Feet” to a kindergarten class. Guest readers were also encouraged to share with the students the position they hold in the Town of Upton and how reading is important to their job. Earlier this week, Craig announced that he had opened a campaign account to run for State Representative. A local businessman and Iraq War veteran, Craig serves as the Upton Finance Committee’s liaison to the Mendon Upton Regional School District. Professionally, Craig has 18 years of private sector experience with the majority spent within the financial service industry. He started his own consulting business in 2013 with a focus on helping small broker-dealers comply with securities regulations. Craig gave up his financial planning practice in 2003 when he was called to active duty with the Marine Forces Reserve and deployed to Iraq with Delta Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. His military awards include the Combat Action Ribbon and Presidential Unit Citation. Craig earned his B.A. from Roanoke College and an M.S. in Finance from Suffolk University.
