CREEK RESTORATION and HOLISTIC MANAGEMENT What a great day down - TopicsExpress

CREEK RESTORATION and HOLISTIC MANAGEMENT What a great day down in Cygnet today! Good Life Permaculture and NRM South ran a successful workshop interpreting river styles, understanding river dynamics, and practical & sensitive solutions to river issues including, erosion, revegetation, headcuts and willows using on site examples. The event also investigated holistic management approaches to improving health of land adjacent to creeks, including planned grazing, landscape function and using animals to improve soil biology and vegetation health, stock watering and fencing options, dung beetles and earthworms to improve aeration and waste management, compost teas to increase biological activity and more. Thanks to hosts Nikki and Kylie who hosted the events on their properties- where 2 local rivercare groups are actively managing the creeks- and using long stem planting techniques (thanks Desley for the demo). A big thanks to Rick James- river management and Steven Joyce- holistic management for their expert presentations. Fact sheets and case studies were developed for this workshop, and will be available soon via Good Life and NRM South web sites. Thanks to the Tasmanian Government Climate Connect grants program for funding the event and associated resources. Also, we need to acknowledge our own Tim Ackroyd, and big thanks to Hannah Moloney (Good Life) for making this concept become a reality.
