CREEKSIDE ANGLING REPORT: YAKIMA RIVER: The entire river is now fishable, including the lower canyon. The river is running at over 4700 CFS at Umtanum, and is high, but reasonably clear even below the Teanaway. Peter & Ricky did some hustling for us up high (around Cle Elum) and managed some nice trout up to 19 inches. Mothers day caddis are still around, not to mention the much anticipated salmonfly, but be armed with lots of stonefly nymphs and be prepared to get them down deep for best results. EASTSIDE LAKES: Lenice and Nunnally are exceptional. Fish are beginning to key in more onto the damsel nymphs, and expect this to increase into June. Chironomids are also on the menu for those trout, with smaller patterns being more prominent as we get later into the season. Keith says we have the best chironomid selection in the city - come see for yourself. Some of the smaller hike in pot holes will be getting a bit too warm for ideal trout fishing, but deeper lakes like Quail, South Teal, and Corral can provide great fishing for big holdover trout after the opening day crowds are long gone. Warmwater options are continuing to improve, bluegill are moving onto the beds still in Stan Coffin, and largemouth are aggressively feeding. For some fantastic fishing and solitude, try hiking into some of the smaller seep lakes. Nearly all of them will have populations of bluegill, but many have some large bass. Look for pockets in the weeds and those big ditch pickles will often be there. Carping is excellent when weather and wind cooperate. SALTWATER: Baitfish are EVERYWHERE. Some of our more seasoned saltwater fishers are saying that this year has shown more baitfish than they can remember and the fish are definitely benefitting from this food source. Big cutthroat are being found on many beaches. Adam will have a personal report for us next week. LONE & PASS: Still pushing out solid rainbows up to 20 inches on chironomids. Try fluorocarbon leaders for better fishing. LOCAL: Low snowpack this year have made the Snoqualmie forks drop into prime shape early this year. The North and South forks are in perfect shape, and even the Middle fork is very fishable right now. These options are so close that wild rainbows and cutthroats on dries after work is an option. Take advantage of the late sunlight while we still have it. Alice and the Beav lakes are both still loaded with planter bows and nice sized bass. REGIONAL: For those of you looking to make the most of your three day weekend with travel plans, consider hitting the Deschutes or Owyhee Rivers in Oregon. Deschutes will be hungry redbands crushing big salmonfly and caddis patterns. The Owyhee will be extremely selective browns sipping PMD emergers. Both sound like a great way to spend Memorial Day weekend.
