CRIME WATCH: Springfield Officers responded to reports of shots fired and a crash in the 2200 block of Stevenson Drive Wednesday night at 5:15 pm. Witnesses told police that occupants in a white car, possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix, opened fire on another car shortly after that car exited a nearby convenience store. A pedestrian was shot in the foot by one of the stray bullets. Surveillance videos from nearby businesses were obtained and are being reviewed by investigators. The intended target, driving a Chrysler 200, accelerated to avoid gunshots and subsequently crashed into a westbound pickup on Stevenson drive. Both vehicles had extensive damage. SPD believes the shooting was deliberate, and not a random act, as the suspect’s vehicle was seen circling the area prior to the shooting. Detectives are currently investigating any connection to a recent shooting on South 16th Street, as the same two groups appear to be involved.
