CRIMINAL CAPITALISM THE BAHAMAS MEANWHILE CRA HUNTS DOWN WAITRESSES FOR NOT REPORTING THEIR TIPS AND BIRD WATCHERS WHO MIGHT BE POLITICAL A Montreal accountant who lives in the Bahamas is allegedly at the centre of a $77-million tax-evasion scheme, QMI Agency has learned. It might have remained a secret had the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) not taken legal action in late November against Jeffrey Mandel, an accountant from Montreals west end. An affidavit obtained by QMI says Mandel is the brains behind a complex financial arrangement in which false charitable donations were submitted to obtain tax deductions in Canada. The money was then sent to the Bahamas, a known tax haven. The CRA says $77.7 million in illegal tax receipts were transferred and resold under a false name.
