CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO GARDENS IN COTTINGHAM GARDEN walls belonging to a number of properties along Northgate and Canongate in Cottingham have been damaged by vandals. The incident happened overnight Saturday 03 August into Sunday 04 August, possibly at approximately 0200hrs. Coping stones from the garden walls were damaged along with two hanging baskets which were removed from gardens and thrown around the street and destroyed. The four victims in this incident are elderly and retired members of the community. A group of youngsters are believed to have been in the area at the time, walking along the route and are thought to have been involved in causing the damage. Local officers are making inquiries in order to establish the identity of those in the group and assistance is sought from the public. It is thought that the group may have been in attendance at a party earlier in the evening in the Northgate area of Cottingham and police are keen to find out exactly where that party was being held in an effort to identify the group.
