CRITERIA AND GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPATION in St Louis River Water walk Oct 13-17, 2014: This is an Indigenous women-led walk, so be prepared to follow the protocols of Ojibwe teachings. Women are to care for the water, therefore women carry the copper water vessel. They may also carry the eagle feather staff. Men may carry the eagle feather staff, but not the copper water vessel. Women wear skirts when in ceremony (walking). You may wear a skirt over pants. Walkers must bring a refillable water bottle and their own food bundle. We wish to minimize the waste we create. Multiple day walkers must bring their own sleeping bags and toiletries, etc. so walkers are prepared for various lodging situations. (Note that we will not be camping outdoors.) Each walker is responsible for their own transportation to and from the beginning and ending point of the days walk. (Walkers participating everyday, from start to finish, will have transportation provided.) Walkers should come prepared with all that they need (clothing, toiletries, medicines, etc). Walkers should be prepared to pay their own expenses.
