CRITIQUE OF THE BLACK WOMAN............this young woman’s critique of Black women is a very broad brush generalization. Personally, this is not at all my perception of Black women. Most of the Black women I know are figures of dignity, strength and resilience. From her scathing criticism, we can assume that this young ladys experience with Black women has been very different. Serious social enquiry on any given topic asks the why of the situation. Many of the realities of Black America, and the African diaspora in general are very complex; rooted in a difficult past. Let’s put the Black woman in historical context: it is understandable that a woman with children left to fend for herself for centuries in a cruel society might become testy. But a progressive people must overcome their past. However, the solution as proposed by this young lady is not that simple: ‘just shut up and be quiet!’ This young lady’s rant is long on criticism but short on solutions. I guarantee you that a woman who is surrounded by the love and support of her man will definitely be more pleasant and amenable.
