CRITTER CAMP BARN CAT PROGRAM IS NOW HAPPENING !!! Barn Cats are the “Clint Eastwoods” of cats… hearty, healthy, tough and ready to earn their keep! By placing these Barn Cats they are given a job and a second chance doing what they do best. Barn Cats save you money by eliminating and discouraging rodents from scavenging and nesting near your feed, crops and home, without poisons or messy traps and glue pads. You provide food, water, shelter and basic humane care for Barn Cats in exchange for a rodent free barn and property. We encourage placing two cats at a time. Critter Camp is now pulling all spayed/neuter cats from our shelter and offering them to individuals in need of barn cats to help control the rodent issues at their home/business.( Go Green !! save a cat and solve your pest problem without out using traps or poisons) This is an amazing way to save many of the cat at the shelter who only have a few days to get adopted. Some of the cats we pull may be more suitable for home lifeand in that case we will be offering these cats (plus their food) to fixed income senior citizens who need a companion and can not afford adoption fees or cost of the food for their new pet. ALL CATS WILL BE OFFERED FOR FREE !!! What The Cats Need Do you have a working barn or a safe, heated outbuilding? If so, these cats need you as much as you need them! Establishment of barn cats in rural areas benefit farms and ranches with rodent control, but the cats must still be regularly fed to keep them healthy. Healthy cats engage in rodent control, whereas starving or unhealthy cats do not. Barn cats need safe, permanent outdoor homes with one or more areas of weather-proof shelter and a continual source of food and clean water. They thrive on rural or semi-rural properties where they can put their natural hunting abilities to good use. Owners of dairy farms, stables and other properties where grain is stored will confirm that cats are a must to avoid rodent infestations! Those that tolerate human companionship also do well in homes where they can spend most of the time outside but can come indoors for food and warmth in severe weather. What We Ask of You When adopting one of our cats in our Barn Cat Program, we ask that you agree to provide the following: A commitment to providing your new barn cat with a forever home A secure place to keep them for the first 2-4 weeks, while they acclimate to the barn and environment. This can be a tack room, stall or any secure indoor enclosure that they cannot escape from. Adequate, safe, and warm shelter in barns, buildings, or stables to protect the cats from predators and the weather Daily food and water - cats cannot live on mousing alone and these kitties need nourishment to catch those mice Long-term veterinary care, as needed (the cats are neutered and vaccinated but will need future rabies vaccination) The new caretaker Must be interested in providing a good home. A country home only occupied on weekends is not acceptable. The cats need daily food and water. People must agree to provide basic needs, including veterinary care if necessary and sign an adoption contract (agreement) similar to one used for domestic cat placements.
