CROSS RIVER APC AGREES WITH PDP ON ZONING The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross Rivers State has aligned itself with the position of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone the seat of the governor of the state in 2015 to the northern senatorial district of the state. Governor Liyel Imoke has also stated in the recent past, that his successor will come from the northern senatorial district of the state. State PDP chairman, Ntufam John Okon told journalists at a media briefing in Calabar that the entire party structure is working towards ensuring that the principle is upheld saying it is only fair and just the slot be given to the zone since it has never produced a governor since the creation of the state. Chairmen of the three parties that formed the APC, Mr. Hilliard Eta [ACN], Prince Terry Martin Bisong [ANPP] and Mike Agbeh [CPC] told journalists at a press briefing that the position of the APC to zone the governorship to the northern zone of the state was to further affirm the earlier resolve of the individual parties to zone the seat to that senatorial district. Eta said, “The APC does not believe in the Ogoja/ Calabar accord as held in some quarters which is whipped up to rotate the governorship of the state.” He said zoning the number one office to the north was a way of doing justice to the zone that has been denied the seat since 1999. Cross River APC has said it would be an act of injustice to deny the northern senatorial district of the state the slot hence its decision to zone the position to area. APC’s statement is coming on the heels of political permutations within the ranks of the PDP to rotate the governorship of the state based on ‘the Calabar— Ogoja accord’.
