……..CROWD MENTALITY: Today the Gospel [Mark 3:7-12] speaks about the huge crowd that pressed on Jesus for so many reasons. A mention was also made about the testimony of the Demoniac about the Sonship of Jesus. Today I wish to share something on Crowd mentality. In the Gospel we were told that people came from different regions just to see Jesus. Some came as far as from the Phoenician cities of Tyre and Sidon. Where have you come from this morning to see and encounter Jesus in the Eucharist? While some are living far from Jesus others are living close to Him through their way of life. The important question I wish to ask us is: Why are you looking for Jesus? Is it for healing, deliverance, feeding, friendship, as a Saviour, etc.? Who is Jesus to me? Do I have a personal relationship and encounter with Jesus or am I just moving in the crowd of Christians in this parish? Do I have personal commitment with Jesus? In the crowd we lose our identity and we can be manipulated by any one or any force external to us. The dynamics of a crowd is so uncertain and unpredictable. I remember in my College days; we once started a demonstration which we tagged Peaceful but after a short while it was influenced and it turned to a violent demonstration. In the words of the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard we are advised to have a leap of faith, a leap from the usual, a leap from the crowd mentality to a more personal encounter and relationship with Jesus whom the First Reading [Heb 7:25-8:6] describes as the High Priest par excellence. He is our High Priest with no imperfections or sins [Heb 7:26]. He is a Perfect Being who alone is capable to turn our lives around for good. Hebrews describes Him as our Saviour. Is He really your Saviour? You cannot attempt this question my dear friend if you are still far from Him or if you are still engrossed in the crowd mentality. I invite you today to have a personal touch with the Eucharistic Jesus who is our Saviour. May Saint Vincent pray for us all.
