Even the most passive consideration of the recent publication which appeared in the punch newspaper of Wednesday, November 3,2014 stating that Governor Liyel Imoke has narrowed down to two aspirants in the governorship race in C.R.S.shows the re-emergence of irresponsible journalism. In this piece of misinformation, which is a perfect illustration of junk journalism, Punch went further to mention the candidates as Fidelis ugbo and Prof.Ben Ayade. As a keen observer and follower of the present unfolding political developments, in C.R.S all aspirants are enabled with a level playing ground to pursue their aspirations.The gains made in the successful conduct of the recent congresses and the smooth House of Assembly primaries are all tributes and a testament to equal participation and fair play. The speculative mode of reportage the punch newspaper displayed shows that it is employing new heights of desperation for commercial profiteering. Instructively, it has embraced irresponsible journalism. The race to the Government House in Cross River State is open until the primaries are held where a single candidate will emerge. And until then, no such decision as erroneously reported by Punch has been made. Moreover, Governor Imoke as the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State, is a true democrat who believes in the principles of consultation and dialogue and had never failed to carry stakeholders along when it comes to decision making as it affects the political family.
