CSA Mourns the Passing of SK Reddy Cricket South Africa (CSA) would like to express its sadness and condolences at the passing away of veteran administrator and Honorary CSA Life Member, SK Reddy. Mr. Reddy passed away on Tuesday evening after being admitted to hospital earlier in the day. A revered sports administrator who played both cricket and soccer, he was a stalwart in the anti-apartheid (SACOS) era and was at the forefront of unification talks. Post unity, he was a founding executive member of the new unified Board, the United Cricket Board of South Africa, which was the predecessor to CSA. Before unity in 1991, Reddy also served as an executive member of the South African Cricket Board and President of the Natal Cricket Board. “Indeed it is very sad news to hear of the passing of this stalwart of our cricket and a strong campaigner for non-racial sport in our country. SK Reddy’s contribution to cricket in South Africa will be remembered for ever,” said CSA President Chris Nenzani. “It is a real sad day when we lose a friend of the calibre of SK who served the game with such distinction during pre and post unity,” commented CSA chief executive, Haroon Lorgat. “I knew SK from the time I was a youngster playing first-class cricket and he was undoubtedly a tall figure around the non-racial game. He always stuck by what he believed was right and we are where we are today because of his contributions,” added Lorgat. Reddy’s accomplishments in the post-unity era included that of being one of the first national selectors on the unified panel. He also enjoyed a stint as manager of the Proteas squad. In 2005, Reddy was awarded CSA Life Membership and continued to serve the game with passion until his passing away at the age of 80. He was scheduled to attend the CSA Annual General Meeting on this coming Saturday. “We will surely miss him and on behalf of everyone in cricket, we salute SK. Our thoughts are now with his family at this difficult time,” concluded Lorgat.
