The ACDP in the Western Cape is sad that the consumers now have to pay 8% increase for power supply especially after the ACDP made repeated calls during the City Budget debate for zero percent increase. ACDP WC Leader Ferlon Christians says that the increase did not have to be so harsh. Consumers were disturbed by the increase during the public participation process. Certain consumers said that their electricity increase will be over 30%. The ACDP made recommendations in order to assist the consumer but was rejected by the DA-led City. As the Nersa increase is 6%, the ACDP questions the reason that the DA-led City makes a profit at the expense of the poor and pensioners. One of the various recommendations that the ACDP raised during the City budget debate was that the DA-led City should reduce overseas trips made by the Mayor and Mayco members. The ACDP raises concern that the DA-led City does not want to listen to struggling consumers and does not care about their plight. The DA-led City is offering zero percent increase to businessmen relocating to Atlantis but not to the poorest of the poor.
