CURIOUS CASE OF MUSONA WARRIORS striker Knowledge Musona turned down a potential move to England’s Championship League side Queens Park Rangers (QPR) opting to return to South African Absa Premiership champions Kaizer Chiefs instead. Musona was invited for a 10-day trial at the London-based club as QPR manager Harry Redknapp sought to bolster his squad currently undergoing a facelift following relegation. In the English NPower Championship Musona would have given himself a real opportunity to break into the coveted Barclays Premier League. “Musona had been given a golden opportunity to rescue his European career, but strangely, he turned that down to sign for Chiefs,” said the source. “It’s disappointing since he is a talented player who can still make it in Europe and for him to turn such an offer down to play in South Africa instead, was a shocker. The (English) Championship would have been a good place for his career. “If he had made the grade, which was most likely, he would have joined a club where he would have game-time in his preferred position. Going to South Africa is taking a few steps back and he may find it difficult to strike another deal in Europe once his contract with Hoffenheim expires.” QPR wrote to Hoffenheim requesting Musona to join them for an assessment at the beginning of the month but Musona went on to seal his move back to the Absa Premiership side. Musona still has two more years left on his deal with Hoffenheim. Independent
