CUT IT STRAIGHT Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15) RIGHTLY DIVIDING: (GK: orthotomeo) A compound word which means: TO MAKE A STRAIGHT CUT; and to DISSECT correctly. If for whatever reason, you desire to demonstrate how that the Bible might endorse a particular decision or lifestyle you hold to. Then let me just say that attempting to prove what you might affirm, from the silence of the scriptures doesnt automatically translate into a POSITIVE ENDORSEMENT from the Bible! If the scriptures DO NOT seem to address clearly by commandment or by decree, a particular situation or topic head on, then part of rightly dividing the Word on any topic would nessesitate one to search out what the scriptures do teach, by clear and consistent principle. And remember, keep a STRAIGHT CUT all the way through. Dont start from the premise of what you believe and then see if the scriptures endorse it. Youll be tempted to make a crooked cut. Instead, first discover what you OUGHT TO BELIEVE and PRACTICE according to the scriptures and then you must be willing yo make the changes (repent) accordingly. But in all things, when searching out truth in the scripture remember to CUT IT STRAIGHT!! Its always us who must be willing to BEND!!
