Cab was coming early this morning to the airport, so I set my - TopicsExpress

Cab was coming early this morning to the airport, so I set my alarm. Not something I do too often, but thought I had it figured out. Now for some reason I had real difficulty sleeping last night, and no idea why. No caffeine in any form, nothing could have eaten... I was tired, but sleep eluded me. Finally get to sleep, and next thing you know the alarm goes off. Its dark, but I havent been up at six in a long time, especially in a foreign country. So I didnt think much of it, I was packed but for my toothbrush, so finished up, and went into the lobby to get my cab. What are you doing, Mr Robert? The cab will not be here until seven. its not seven? No, it is only four fifteen. Oops. I must have messed up the clock setting the alarm. In any event seven comes by soon enough, and the projected two hour ride to the airport takes little over forty five minutes. I have hours before my flight. No problem. Breakfast is always a good idea, and I found a very decent breakfast buffet in an upstairs lounge. Hardly anyone there, maybe three other people. Perfect. Eat, relax, read and soon enough its on the plane. Uneventful flight and Im in Delhi. One thing I have learned especially traveling in Asia, if that if there is a prepaid taxi available, its always a good idea. I knew my hotel was near the airport, and it didnt cost much. However, I have an idiot cab driver. Has no idea where this place is. I have the address and the directions. I show him. He tells me he cant read. Great. So I tell him it is right next to the Radisson. He babbled something in Hindi at me, and drives until he pulls over to ask a tuk-tuk driver. Listen, I hear the tuk-tuk guy say its right next to the Radisson. Great. We drive some more, and he pulls up at the Radisson and stops. Im thinking he is going to ask the hotel guys where my place is, but hes got my bags out. Fine. No tip, dude. Frustrated and really tired. I ask the Radisson guys. Im like 200 yards from the place. Am I glad Im traveling light. Long story cut a bit short: get there, the place is fine, I rest for a bit, then go out to find an atm. This leads me through some streets the tourists never walk, and I am digging it. Get that taken care of, go back to the hotel. Need a place to eat. My problem is I only have 500 rupee bills, and I need a place where can get change. The street vendors have delicious food, but they would have difficulty giving me change for 100. Like buying a pack of gum with a hundred dollar bill. This leads me in a different direction, and onto a street I most definitely need to check out in the daylight. The night was intoxicating and vibrant with tons of people shopping: the sights, the sounds, the smells... I tell you what (Hank Hill, I know), India sure stretches your senses to the limit. Found a place, had a decent chicken korma and some outstanding garlic naan and back to the hotel. Im tired.
