Cabinet Endorses the PNG National Climate Change and Development Policy 31 July 2014: The news came through the Office of Climate Change and Development as the staff were knocking off from work. The long awaited Policy has been endorsed by the Cabinet. For those that started the two and half year policy process from brainstorming to drafting, consulting, validating, and endorsement is a sweet relief has been one of the most consulted policy that many staff of OCCD have been involved in. I can remember those times that OCCD has been called time and again, WHERE IS YOUR POLICY?. Those long hours and trips taken to provinces and regions to consult on the policy, receiving those comments from stakeholders and inputting them to improve the draft. So many drafts that took soo much time and efforts from the staff but they were patience enough to see it through. Professionallly, I would like to personally acknowledge the polictical will and the OCCD Management for facilitating this process. That staff that put so much time and effort of this policy I cannot go past the following colleagues; Ms Rensie Panda, Ms Sherlyn Weplu, Ms Emmajil Rowanna, Ms Lulan Lu, Ms Eunice Dus Mbx, Mr Danny Danny Stains Nekitel, Mr William Lakain, Ms Ethel Namuri, Mr Erick Sarut, Ms Debra Sungi, Mr Terence Barambi, Ms Nidatha Martin, Mr Jonah JT Auka, Mr Albert Milala, and Ms Manau Renagi. The support staff from OCCD finance and administration were there to provide their support. On Friday, 1 August 2014, OCCD celebrated with a small but significant to mark this new era in the life of OCCD and the issue at hand. Now the way forward is for OCCD and its stakeholder to interpret this policy and operationalize it.
