Cadence Health Presents Injury Prevention Plan to Warrenville City Council Written by George Safford Meeting as the Safety and Legislative Committee of the Whole on June 10, the Warrenville City Council began with the swearing in of a new Police Sergeant, Matthew Komar. A 15-year veteran of the Warrenville Police Department, Sgt. Komar joined the force fresh out of college. Among his many distinctions of service on the force, Matt was the department’s first Canine Officer. Cadence Health provided an information presentation on its ThinkFirst Injury Prevention Program. With only 23 similar programs throughout the state, Cadence has sponsored the program in the DuPage area for over 10 years, five of them in Warrenville. The centerpiece of the program is classroom sessions in area schools, teaching kids from kindergarten through high school how to prevent injuries and think safety. Safety helmets are donated to kids as part of the program. In honor of that, Mayor David Brummel was given a new helmet and fitted for it at the council session. The Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan was presented by ESDA Coordinator Chet Wiencek and adopted as policy by the council. A lengthy and information-packed publication is available on the city’s website. The 241 page document will also be available for viewing at the Warrenville Library and at City Hall for interested citizens. The Plan complies with both the state and federal programs and makes the city eligible for emergency funds for developing prevention programs. The City and Fire District have agreed to purchase and operate jointly a new pick-up truck. Jamie Clark works for the City’s public works department and is the Assistant Fire Chief for the Fire District. The vehicle he uses will be expensed to both government entities and save both budget resources at the same time. A detailed Intergovernmental Agreement was approved by the city council to implement the action. A presentation of the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) was given by Police Officer Matthew Dolmyer. The Mobile Field Force Unit is shared among many regional police departments to extend major police supports in emergency situations while sharing costs affordably. The council approved AT&T’s request to replace six of its nine existing cell phone antennae with larger and more powerful equipment. Also approved was the construction of the extension of Rockwell St. north of Butterfield Rd. to connect with Calumet Ave. at a cost of $85,000 and to be included in the TIF #3 projects. Five new police vehicles were approved for purchase to replace three existing obsolete vehicles. villagechronicles.net/home/front-page/item/2942-cadence-health-presents-injury-prevention-plan-to-warrenville-city-council
